Mac port and Google Summer of Code 2007
Two applications have been slotted :
Complete User Interface respecting Aqua Human Interface GuidelinesObjectives : complete/write the code to modify the look of the Aqua version of OpenOffice.org, to respect Aqua Human Interface Guidelines.
The work started -some times ago- using
Stephan Schaefer and
Dan Williams initial work on
Native Widget Framework, but we very probably will complete using
HIView and the
HIFramework Sébastien recently implemented
Ismael Merzaq, the selected candidate for this application, is student in
INSA Lyon ( France ) and does contribute to Mac OS X port since October 2006, with a lot of very good quality patches and code (fixes for bitmaps, recent window groups implementation, cursors , Core Graphics work.. etc) .
Last but not least, Ismael is
Domain Developper for OpenOffice.org project. I'm glad to mentor such candidate.
The second application is the
Mac OS X Address book integration in OpenOffice.org (both for Aqua and X11 versions)
Sébastien plisson will mentor the second candidate, and I'll present him shortly :
Omer Bar-or is student at
Colorado College ( Colorado Springs, CO ) and joined recently the Team. He is currently discovering the project.
He will implement the
Mac OS X Adress Book integration, and I'm sure Mac users will appreciate.
To know more about them, both candidates presented themselves during the
27th of April IRC meeting
The Mac OS X port of OpenOffice.org is proud to welcome them and I'm impatient to see the result !

Mac OS X port : yet another tinderbox
"froumi" proposed me a remote access, and I asked to use the remote access to setup a tinderbox.
XCode and X11SDK are installed, ccache will arrive, so let's install the tinderbox now.
Stay tuned :)

Saturday trip
Charles invited us to a walk , in Dampierre s/ Linotte, somewhere in
French County (
English link )
The walk ( 12 km for me ) was organized by the association
Association Franc Comtoise du Chemin de Compostelle, dedicated, as the name explains, to the
Saint James route of Santiago de Compostela in French county :)
Anne, Solène ( 7 ) and Tom ( 8 1/2) did 6 km
After the trip and the Saint James cake at arrival, we have seen a movie from Serge, who did it, from Mandrevillard to Santiago de Compostella .. with "Calin", a donkey !
Last, a trio ( violin, alto , cello ) played some Ragtimes and more "classical" music.
More things are simple, and better they are.
Very nice day

Thank you for the donations (attend WWDC )
The current amount of donated money is approximatively 1000 euros ! ( mainly received from
Cusoon Paypal)
If we add the money we received from the Community Council, we now have 3000 euros available.
This is quite important, and that's the reason why the Mac OS X port wants to say to all the donators a big ...
... Thank you very much !!Libellés : events

AquaBuild wiki page visited 21,200 times !
For Mac OS X native port (means without X11),
we document everything we do on the Wiki, mainly in
Aqua Section The most important number of access does concern
AquaBuild page, hit
21,200 times already.Welcome in the
Top 20 of the most popular pages of the OpenOffice.org wiki ! (just behind

The Bus Factor
Imagine a developer working alone on an important piece of your software. If this guy is hit by a bus, you're toasted.
More credible, people can go away, get married, have children...etc.
A good idea could be to make at least two people working on the same part. Means have the most important "bus factor" is essential.
What is the bus factor with OpenOffice.org source code ?
( is it even possible to define it ? )
Document ... document ... document

Mac OS X port WWDC07 : Call for donations
Mac OS X port needs donations to attend the WWDC 2007 (11 -15th June ). Please donate to Cusoon (there is a paypal button, and we can provide you a receipt, including VAT details, and registration number at french commerce register on demand)
Important : please specify in the subject : donation to Mac OS X port for WWDC. In case of problem, contact me directly
Volunteers wanting to attend :
3 people : Shaun McDonald, Sébastien Plisson and Eric Bachard
Our Objectives for going are :
1)
Rendez-Vous : Present our current work to Apple people, easy to meet only during WWDC ( Apple people can give us a face, and keep the contact )
=> There is information difficult to find or ask by email, or IRC or whatever web : direct contact saves a lot of time, and
is a very efficient way to progress with code
2)
Expertise : define what is expected for User Interface with people from Apple UI project
=> Last year, Apple UI project proposed me to help us, once our native menus will be working.
This is now done, and meet them cannot be a bad idea :)
3)
Find Code : ask for code review and find code snippets for :
- HIView
- Printing
- Drag and Drop
+ more if possible
=> More than 1000 Apple engineers are present, and can answer our questions regarding the code,
during the whole weekDuring WWDC2006 we found all the relevant informations for RunApplicationEventLoop() to be implemented . Without this code, we wouldn't have something working at all, because this event loop is the key for everything in OpenOffice.org on Mac OS X ( without X11 ).
4)
Social Contract : Discuss and meet new developers and / or american people working for Mac OS X port (like Michael Sicotte, Vijay Venkatraman , other.. )
5)
Visibility : make OpenOffice.org project visible in an ocean of other software. This is extremely important because it shows that OpenOffice.org project is alive for Mac OS X platform.
Many many thanks in advance !!--

Archlinux and OpenOffice.org port

Recently, Mélodie contacted me because OpenOffice.org 2.2 didn't work on ArchLinux distribution ( optimized for i686 and x86-64 architectures ).
After some tries, looks like it works fine( it is nice logo, isn't ? )
Important : we had a well known issue, we solved on IRC :"no suitable windowing system found, exiting ..."
The problem was caused by bad libFLAC version.
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libFLAC.so.8 /usr/lib/libFLAC.so.7 solved it !! Thanks to ArchLinux to use OpenOffice.org :)
