OpenOffice.org Aqua : Top 10 of issues to be fixed before public release

During 19th January meeting it was proposed the Top 10 of issues before public release.

Means, once fixed those 10 issues, a public version of OpenOffice.org for Mac OS X, running natively, without X11, will be available for download.

IMPORTANT :
It's obviously not question of a final version, but a testable version, not for production.
Some parts may be missing, or not work, but will constitute a first step in the direction of native OpenOffice.org for Mac OS X, not using X11.

All the mentionned issues are important issues, and will need some time before to be fixed.

The rule : more we receive help, less you will wait before to test

How help us ?

You can :

- contribute to the code
- send us money, to buy hardware and help us for for travels, events
( see Cusoon link, there is a paypal button )
- build Aqua version : checkout the code, build it, do debug and return us patches, fixes

Other ways :

- do QA for localized versions
- translate documentation,
- contribute to OpenOffice.org wiki
- test OpenOffice.org ( don't forget that test X11 version helps us a lot )

Which issues are concerned ?

We created a special keyword in OpenOffice.org database for that : aqua
To know more, go here ... the list should appear, with current status (new/started/fixed ..etc).

Once all 10 issues fixed, we will provide a build.

Another new dev for native (without X11) version

A new developer joined the Mac OS X port recently : Sebastien Plisson, 32, married 1 daughter and soon a second daughter (very soon :) ), software engineer at SNCF (French Railway) , with C, C++, Java, XML, XSL and C# skills.

Sebastien contributes to salatslayout implementation ( use native font server with Aqua version).
This issue is one of the Top 10 to be fixed (means the 10 last issues to fix before public release of Aqua version).

Welcome to Sebastien on Mac OS X port !

Last aquavcl01 changes

[done]

add mouse drag events ( pjanik )
modify libsalsystools.dylib to be correctly loaded with the bundle (ericb, + pjanik)

Not directly aquavcl01, but will save more than 40MB in bundle size :
implement mapfiles for Mac OS X (Tino Rachui, Stephan Bergmann, Daniel Boelzle, Pavel Janik)

[In progress]

(started, Oliver Braun) - modify the tree to make the bundle start without hack ( issue fixed during buildtime)
(started, Florian Heckl) verify Native FilePicker implementation ( works , tested in Hamburg  )
(started Ismael Merzaq) implement blit functions in salgdi  ( very important fix:  close to apha version once done)
( started Sebastien Plisson- update the missing functions list ( fonts ... ask hdu & cl   )
( started, ericb, Mox Soini, Sebastien Plisson) continue to replace obsolete code

Back from Paris ( snow, SNCF, wait ... )

Back from Paris (Leopard tech talk for devs).

Since a long time I prefer take my car to go to Paris. But this time, I decided to took a train for the travel : the result is I'm less tired, but it was a bit longer than expected :-/

Counterpart : got good news for one dev of the port and me : just be patient :-)

Yvan Barthélémy, another french student (from IFIPS, Paris Sud University ) helping the Mac OS X port was here, and it was great to meet him for true.

Native version :
I presented where we are to some Apple people present and I have shown OpenOffice.org without X11. People have seen aqua version is a reality, but the Mac OS X port needs help and strategy to complete the challenge.

It was the occasion to discuss a lot about technical points to be implemented/fixed with very good developers. Very interesting.

Last, I saw Christian Hardy's mail, this means CUSOON (see the link on this blog) helped the Mac OS X port one more time :-)

Again : many thanks to CUSOON for it's help !!

Next week : Paris again ( Solutions Linux ). I hope without snow this time ;)

10 years without use Microsoft Windows :-)

Yes :-)

My first Linux distribution was a Red Hat 5 + a big book inside. No XFree ( my card was not supported), but very Funny to use, and fast ...

Since, I changed for Debian, and more recently I added Mac OS X in the list. Sorry, no idea what a Virus can be, but I'm sure I saved a lot of money using something else.

Why this blog entry ? Soon, Vista will come, and I have found something interesting to read :

[Mac OS X port] Separate the applications ?

Mox proposed a nice change yesterday : separate the applications, and dock Writer, Calc or Impress separately.

The look :

This is still experimental, but is you are interested to test (at your own risks), you can follow the instructions Mox Soini provided in his mail : Instructions for test separate applications
