New Content Developer for the mac site
I suggested
Shaun McDonald, who revamped
the official Mac site to localize some parts.
My idea was to
improve the readability: the first and urgent need is localize some parts, providing a link with
Native Lang Community projects, (but not in english, because a lot of users don't understand -and will never- read english).
A big problem is, change something is not that easy: the current tools are not optimized, and the difficulty for the maintainer is multiplied.
Welcome to Raphael Bircher, a new
Content Developer for the Mac porting project, who kindly proposed the german localization.
If you are interested,
we need other volunteers for other locales.

Mockup for 3.0 proposal
Disclaimer: what follows is
not what will be OpenOffice.org 3.0 logo, but just a proposal.
Some times ago,
Andreas Sohns, 19 years student in Bonn proposed a mockup for the future version of OpenOffice.org.
I found the mockup so promising and professionnal, that I decided to ask Andreas Sohns the authorization to show his work on my blog.

Of course, brushed metal is maybe not the theme Apple will use for the coming Mac OS X10.5 , aka "Leopard", but that's already more Mac'ish.
Other interesting piece is
the Splashscreen
The only bad thing I found, is we cannot use splashscreen with rounded corners, because we use .bmp (square images only ) , but maybe it's time to change for another image format ..

configure...
configure with cabalistic command line looks really prehistoric ...
Just a dream: see OpenOffice.org use a toy like "make menuconfig", ( like for Linux Kernel configuration).

Reminder:
we have IRC meeting TODAY
... Gorm ( .nib , part 2 )
Glad to have seen Robert Dargaud ( alias Bob) at home today afternoon. Bob suddenly disappeared the 28th november 2005 in the snow, when we came back from HH. I now have proofs he was not completely lost :)
Of course, we discussed a lot about the Aqua port, but not only.
The other very interesting point of discussion was about
Renaissance I already presented and
Gorm**.
Looks like we have tools to create correct ( but hell) ".nibs" using that.
Imagine, we parse some resource files, and transform them into .xml files. Then, we transform the .xml files into .nibs.
... I'm sure we can do something with that.
**I'd like to thank mm_w for his mail about Gorm too ;-)

Cocoa migration, GNUStep Renaissance project and .nibs
The weather is awfull today, and instead doing nothing .. work a bit for Cocoa migration cannot be bad ;)
.nib is hell: in a strange directory, you keep what is needed to start your application. The problem is you must use Interface Builder to create them.
For a lot of reasons, we ( Mac porters) prefer not, and find another solution -preferably Open source- instead would be great: this is hell for an open source project to use such closed things.
After some times of research (it's raining outside), I found something who could probably help :
Just investigating, maybe Renaissance, from GnuStep project can help you to replace .nib ?
