Education Project meeting: log available

Was IRC meeting today, for the
Education Project, and it was really a great moment.
We need to improve what we did last year, mostly improve the wiki presentation, the organization, and cleanup the website.
This year, we are more to welcome the students, and to be able to help and mentor them. As developers able to to that, I'd like to mention
Thorsten Behrens, Cedric Bosdonnat (both from Novell), and as developer (representing
Epitech Paris)
Pierre Pasteau ( + me )
On the prof side, we were happy to receive
Fardad Soleimanloo (from
Seneca College, Toronto) and at the end)
Morgan Magnin (from
Ecole Centrale Nantes ... me from
UTBM (both as prof and dev in fact).
On the students side, the list is long, an we were extremely happy to welcome
4 students from Sri Lanka ( University of Moratuwa ), one from Seneca College one from UTBM, several from Ecole Centrale Nantes ( a group of 5). Sadly, the students from ECN had a connectivity problem, and some were not able to join.
BTW, next week, I'll attend the
JDLL, for a presentation I'll do about
OOo4Kids, and I'll probably meet students from
INSA Lyon but I'll write another entry about that soon.
As usual the log is available on the wiki : the logNext meeting is scheduled the 15th October, same hour. See you !!"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Education Project and Epitech Paris

From July to December 2009, there will be a new scheduled Project between
OpenOffice.org Education Project and
Epitech Paris Thomas Fontenay, Abdelkader Bellabes will work on a forked version of OpenOffice.org, named
OOo4Kids for
performance improvement on powerless machines, like
XO or
gdium.
Of course, this study will include
backport to OpenOffice.org for the most interesting solutions (if possible and accepted), and will include
profiling too, plus at least one

Students, OpenOffice.org and Java
Today, I was glad to see
Cedric Bosdonnat (Novell) join the IRC channel
#education.openoffice.org (server is irc.freenode.net). We often have questions from students about Java, but we had not the skills to answer.
Cedric will help a lot with that.
Of course, there are
#dev.openoffice.org and
#go-oo IRC channels (and some other), but the idea is to use a dedicated channel, to avoid boring developers with simple and often-the-same questions.
Something ideal could be to have dedicated hours where students could find the developers they need. e.g. defining a list, or sort of agenda on the wiki. Shouldn't be too difficult, but we need volunteers ...
...btw, Python specialists are accepted and welcome too ;-)See you :-)Libellés : Education, effort, High Tech, java, OpenOffice, Teaching OpenSource
Little ClassRoom about warnings

Today, and because of the proximity of the holidays, we did a little ClassRoom with Rakesh, about the current effort
wae4binfilter.
The origin of the effort, what sorts of warnings we can encounter, and how solve them, and retain the lesson for the future code we'll write.
The log, including several relevant links, is available =>

To much of mails, I'll answer tomorrow. Yesterday, I did some progress with the Apple Remote: added new constants, better vision of all the thing. But I still don't see all the messages I should in the terminal. A lot remains to do.
Today, I worked with
Rakesh Pandit on the wae4binfilter01 cws. Since his SCA is accepted, he was so kind to provide a lot of patches (28!), I was glad to commit for him. Currently, all current patches have been commited, and only a little number of uninitialized cases are remaining. Yet to fix some complicated cases, but I expect to complete wae4binfilter01 by tomorrow or so. Time to find a QA resp :-) (volunteers ? )
wae4binfilter02 will probably be about bad Ctors initializations.
Good news:
Pierre Pasteau, a student from
Epitech (Paris) proposed to contribute to OpenOffice.org for 5 months (until mid december exactly), as an Application for his cursus. This is not completely sure, but the last remaining thing I have to do is sign and return the convention, and we can go. Yet some administrative points to be verified before that. I'll provide further information asap.
Started a wiki page about the
first task (3 are scheduled). To be continued.
Last but not least,
Raphael Bircher proposed some update for the Education Project website. Thanks to Raphael, and thanks to all, who are doing a lot for the
Education Project.
